I got clowned on in another thread for suggesting that open carrying paints a target on your back for criminals to shoot you immediately and/or try to steal your firearm. "Where's the news articles on that ever happening." Seems to me like it happens often enough to make the news every few months

Once every few months, when tens of millions of people carry daily. Like I said: statistical noise.

And almost always, the victim is acting a fool, parading a Shiny Thing (a fancy watch, or the firearm itself), displaying poor situational awareness, etc. It's not about the firearm or the method of carry.

BBI laid it out well in post #18. Additionally, that which may be seen is more likely to be stolen than that which is hidden (since it first must be discovered).

Method of carry is a factor. How much of a factor can be debated.
Sure: where stupid carry is employed, it can be a factor.

That one will be back in a few days. Hopefully things go well after that. Come for the classifieds, stay for the discussion.
The drive-by comment had all the hallmarks of a classifieds run, which I considered as confirmed, given the Shooter status.
