Just finished reading Kuhnhausen's "The S&W Revolver". Great read on disassembly, troubleshooting, repairs, etc. The book does not make you an instant gunsmith, but does help the knowledge base. These are available directly from Heritage Gun Books.

I have the 1911 book lying around here somewhere. GREAT resource for anyone anywhere from a weekend enthusiast to professional gunsmith.

What I like is not just how to take the guns apart and do work upon them, but also interesting history tidbits, background information and the tips/hints that add to the experience of gun ownership.

The M1 book is very good also. I would recommend it if you are into rebuilding M1s.
