Not sure where to put this, so this thread seems good enough.

    I'm working for Aldi now!

Stopped at the Westfield/Carmel store to pick up a few things, and they have new self-checkouts installed.

@PhotoNinja told me just last night, she saw somewhere that Aldi was going to bring back 2019 prices for Thanksgiving.

This is the new normal, people will not work, business automates.

Wait really? Aldi is putting in self checks?

Man they can't even maintain their regular staffing of two people per store.

So the companies are solving their staffing problems by making us work for free? Of course this does not make prices lower, so my efforts benefit them, and have no benefit for me.

How about they pay me by taking $5 of the bill for my time and effort if they are unwilling to staff.

Even when I worked at a car garage, I had the boys pump my gas until the last full serve station closed. The boys need the job for money and to develop a work ethic, and I could easily afford a nickle per gallon extra.

I guess we have a choices, don’t buy where we have to do the checkout, buy where they still have cashiers, or don’t buy. Sucks…

Interest rate driven, IMO. Supply chains are still a tangled mess. I bought used because I simply couldn't buy new. Order banks were closed, then a 6-9 month wait minimum. Given the percentage of people who rely on financing, I bet you that total cash outlays are *not* peaking yet, even if car prices are down. Just banks are getting more of the money than dealerships.

Sold my truck to a friend who really needed one, he's happy, I'm happy. Hopefully I won't need to go shopping again for more than a few years.
