I guess this is as good a spot as any.

I do a lot of business at the Mennonite owned General Store near us. One of the young men that help load lumber was saying he needed a deer rifle for this year. I asked private land or public and he said private.

So there was this 03A3 Sporterized in the classified here on INGO. Yesterday at noon I picked it up and didn't start working on it until evening. I had never done a rifle in blue and Parkerized but it isn't that bad. All the Parked pieces looked like they were new so I left them as they were. All I had to do today is reassemble and mount a scope. He wasn't particular about the scope and I keep gathering used ones from the LGSs for next to nothing. This has an old Tasco 6x25x40 with AO on it now.

If it cools off I will sight it in.

The back of the bolt, the extractor and the trigger group/magazine are Parked and everything else blued.

Me and the oldest boy will be toting a couple of 6.5 grendel ar's this year. Mine is 20" built on an ingo lower that drew first blood last year. 40y shot with 120 gn Sierra Prohunter handload couldn't have left me happier. Son wanted to use the grendel this year and I wasn't quite ready to move on yet, so I built up another for him. Rock River National Match Lower half with 16" Grendel Hunter upper. It is a rocking good gun! If he does his part, all will be fine. Both wear Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 4-12x AO scopes. They are a fine scope for the money. I have and love wood and blued steel bolt guns, and they will see duty again sometime soon. Right now, I feel like the grendel ar's are exactly what I want to be using.

I almost always get a buck with bow or crossbow but couple years ago finally got to use my Federal Ordanance M14A USGI parts 1961 mostly to take a small buck. Would like to try out either the M1 Garand or M1 Carbine the next time with the proper ammo also. On a side note I just seen the steel plating in lower
corner, still have it, had five 1/4" plates welded together and shot a 30-06 round from 1903 with a AP round. It penetrated all five but didn't break through the last plate but bulged it pretty good. I grinded the welds to take last plate off to see the bullet, used a screw driver to pry off the plate on the ground....that last plate finally gave and shot up several feet in the air thankfully missing my head! I never would of dreamed there was that kind of pressure.....and there was the AP round sticking 1/4" through the 4th plate and the tip was almost as sharp as a needle....still got that plate and bullet sticking through it in the garage, almost forgot about it until I came across this picture.

This is my dream rifle in .30-06, but a dream is all it will ever be. I doubt I`ll ever be able to afford it or justify the cost to my wife:

I'll be running the 6.8 SPC AR again this year. The more I hunt with an AR the more I appreciate the platform. Yes, it lacks soul, but it makes up for it in function. I will still have the 1894 ready to go just in case.
With no special antlerless season this year, I'm also dusting off the old TC Renegade.

Used my dad's .30-30 last year and got my best buck to date. I picked up a Winchester 94 in .38-55 for Cowboy Action long range so I'll try that this year. Clanging steel at 300 consistent but I'll stay inside 150 in the field.

I had a 141, nice rifle. Could not see the sights. Tried to find a peep for it, cheapest one was 300 bucks. So.........rifle was sold for what I paid, which was a pretty good deal.

Have a scoped 760 in .35 rem so was just an extra.

Last time I counted,I had 18 rifles that were legal for deer, from 6ppc and 6x45 thru 30-06, including 3 243's,a 7-08, two 6.5 Creedmoors,3 25-06's,a .308, a 6-250 A.I. and a few odds and ends, But I always end up carrying one of these 30-30's on opening day.

18? Dang son, get to work!

Those two are fine looking levers. I had a real nice 1954 made Marlin 336 that I picked up for pocket change since the guy didn't want to fix it. I found someone who wanted it more and it has a good home now.

Conservative estimate would be 80+ for me, but you can only use 1 at a time. Not bragging, just letting you know I am crazier than most.

Absolute beautiful 12pt, keep up the good work and when SHTF grab up your good stuff and you can hole up at my place.

that's set up to use bullets from 45-70 molds cast from soft lead.

    It's the same as shooting a 45-70, or 90.
Are you a lefty also? I had a LH Cabella's with all the brass but I sold it. I shoot LH but I was going to use it for a wall display since I already had a RH that looked very similar.

Yep, I'm another left eyed south paw.
Just can't tell you how disappointed I was when modern science changed it's mind again and said it wasn't true that left handed people were controlled by the right side of their brain. All my life I thought I was a right brained person in a wrong brain world but now I may be wrong brained too!

Uncle Dick traded in the k98 I helped him clean some of the mud out of, and when he passed he left me a Spanish mauser with a beautiful bore, and a nice little pile of ammo. I finally got around to ordering one of the Galati mounts for it, and a vortex scout scope. Pending a successful few range trips,. it'll be my happiest deer season choice in some time. Go Uncle Dick!

I'm going to let my stand pick my rifle I think. My .270 for the back field and long shots, .38-55 lever for the stands in gullies and woods. Or my .30-30 or my .45-70. or...... Oh heck I don't know.
