Gun oil has no standards and specs. Motor oil does. I use some 0w I have laying around from a turbo car I don’t have anymore. It’s thin and I’ve yet to have a jam like I used to get with CLP.

has flashbacks of spray bottles of CLP prior to being put on range with the army. :ugh:

I'm beginning to wonder if I will ever need to buy lube for my firearms again. I'm working with a tube of Gun Grease that is older than my kids(30 & 34) and my cleaner lubes are well over 7 years old and still feel pretty full.

Reminds me of the widow's jar. They just won't go dry. :)

I just don't use that much and I really don't want my firearms smelling like a 54 Dodge.

Several years ago I was trying all sorts of different oils and greases to lube guns. I ended up just dumping into this bottle. Glocks like it just fine.

These are the products I have found work well for me. You could buy the One Shot, Hoppes and Lucas at the local gun shop for about $20 total. Enough stuff to last years and no messy Mobile 1 bottles laying around.

I started using Amsoil in one of my pistols. So far so good. No corrosion or malfunctions. I'll give it another thousand rounds or two before I decree it a success.

Thanks to those that gave intelligent responses. I may try the synthetic 0W for a while. I get a whole lot more for the money that "Gun Oil".

Pretty sure every 3rd world country uses old motor oil to lube their AKs and Tokarevs. I'm betting new oil will work much better!

    .
Old guns need a good oiling and I've been having good luck with Ballistol on firearms and gun leather. Soaking in kerosene or #2 diesel works for me as well.

Let’s try this a different way. Twice at a USPSA match I have had to take someone to the safe table, wipe the motor oil out of the gun and properly lubricate it to get them back into the match. Have also seen the same thing happen during a training class. I have never seen a gun malfunction from over lubrication but my limited experience with motor oil would suggest there are better options. Most people aren’t packing around AKs.

I have seen more then one bottle of “Billy’s Best” miracle gun oil that looked and smelled like ATF. Heck even the red Lucas might be nothing more then transmission fluid. I have no doubt motor oil mixed with ATF can be used to lube guns. Would be a great mix to keep in the barrel beside the Vietnam era CLP. But seriously guys how much cleaner and lube does the average person go through in a year.
