    I have an Remington Wingmaster 20ga that my father bought for me as a youngster. He bought it at Western Auto in So IN. I remember going in that store. They had everything from car parts to lawn mowers to guns. Good times

    Cool history. There are still hardware stores with interesting non-traditional hardware inventory. Menards branched out into various household goods, toys, and even groceries. But it seems only dedicated gun stores sell firearms nowadays, as jumping through all the Federal hoops isn't worth it for anyone else. There used to be a lot more places offering firearms, but the only non-dedicated stores I can think of now are Rural King and Cabela's / Bass Pro.
