Rushville Republican - Knightstown ‘Children’s Home’ to close
INDIANAPOLIS — The state of Indiana will close a 143-year-old home for troubled children in May, disappointing alumni who had found refuge there and the veterans groups that supported it.

The Indiana State Department of Health said it would close the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home in Knightstown and move its 114 students in grades 5-12 into community settings after the current school year ends in May.

Interesting. I have a relative that graduated from there. I'm sure it has helped straighten out some of its students during its history, but it sure didn't help him become a responsible citizen.

I heard this story on Wrtv6 out of Indy.

Their operating cost for last school year Ten Million dollars.
That is why it is closing.

I passed this place last summer on a bike ride and wondered just how much longer a place like this could go on operating in these times. I guess the answer was.... "about a year". :dunno:

They've done a lot of good for a lot of kids that just didn't have any where else to turn over the last 150 years.

My father was more or less raised there.
