Illinois resident, can I buy a single shot rifle in Indiana?

I used to buy at Fetla's. And the place northwest of there.

I'm not sure how things work anymore.

I've heard a lot of places just won't sell to Illinois residents anymore.

Federally, yes. Illinois law is a mystery to me.

It’s been a long time since I worked behind a gun counter but 10 years ago we could sell long guns to Illinois residents. Had to record foid, 24 hour (now 72 I think) wait still applied etc. Couldn’t sell anything they couldn’t possess in their state/county. Had to abide by the Illinois rules for that person. Things change though. I’d wait for a response from someone currently in the workspace. Or call a gun dealer near the state line for info.

That sounds a little ridiculous. But when I'm run down, it's not a good time to do business.

Good luck. I hope they have some good news for you. Illinois residency never makes anything 2a easy

It is legal if you buy a long-gun from an FFL in any state bordering Illinois. This does not violate any Illinois nor Federal (nor Indiana) law. However, some FFLs won't allow it. Relevant laws below:

Illinois Law: 430 ILCS 65/3a
Sec. 3a. (a) Any resident of Illinois who has obtained a firearm owner's identification card pursuant to this Act and who is not otherwise prohibited from obtaining, possessing or using a firearm may purchase or obtain a rifle or shotgun or ammunition for a rifle or shotgun in Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin or Kentucky.

(a)It shall be unlawful
(3)
for any person, other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to transport into or receive in the State where he resides (or if the person is a corporation or other business entity, the State where it maintains a place of business) any firearm purchased or otherwise obtained by such person outside that State, except that this paragraph (A) shall not preclude any person who lawfully acquires a firearm by bequest or intestate succession in a State other than his State of residence from transporting the firearm into or receiving it in that State, if it is lawful for such person to purchase or possess such firearm in that State, (B) shall not apply to the transportation or receipt of a firearm obtained in conformity with subsection (b)(3) of this section, and (C) shall not apply to the transportation of any firearm acquired in any State prior to the effective date of this chapter;

(3)any firearm to any person who the licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe does not reside in (or if the person is a corporation or other business entity, does not maintain a place of business in) the State in which the licensee’s place of business is located, except that this paragraph (A) shall not apply to the sale or delivery of any rifle or shotgun to a resident of a State other than a State in which the licensee’s place of business is located if the transferee meets in person with the transferor to accomplish the transfer, and the sale, delivery, and receipt fully comply with the legal conditions of sale in both such States (and any licensed manufacturer, importer or dealer shall be presumed, for purposes of this subparagraph, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, to have had actual knowledge of the State laws and published ordinances of both States), and (B) shall not apply to the loan or rental of a firearm to any person for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes;

Academy just doesn't sell any long guns to Illinois, just because it's not worth the effort...

I can't blame anybody for not doing business with Illinois, any Illinois business or anyone from Illinois - except me. LoL

We do our level best to avoid doing business in Crooked county - Chicago and surrounding areas.

A portion of any money spent there goes towards relieving us of our rights
Then we have to give more money to the supporters of our rights.

It doesn't seem sensible to find both sides.

We switched from Northwestern Medical - Chicago to IU - Indianapolis. But eventually had to switch back. We really hate going to Chicago
