I have a problem with sugar. Go figure. Beyond that my health issues are not that many. Blood pressure is controlled. Acid reflux. That is it.

For most of my pills I have some in the morning and others in the evening. I know what they are and simply turn the bottles upside down when I take the others. This reminds me that they haven't been taken yet.

But now I am on a new dope that is supposed to be taken within 30 minutes of eating. I have no established habit for this. I will cook dinner or eat out, but I haven't been able to establish some sort of reminder to take this medication.

An alarm wouldn't work because I eat at varying times of the day. Some evenings dinner may be at 1730, others 2000. I don't normally eat breakfast, so that is problematic.

I want to know what methods some of you that have faced a similar dilemma have implemented to remind you that it is time.

    Much Thanks,

    Doug

I probably take the same med 30 min before a meal (morning and evening), have for years and fail daily. I try. My wife just asked me tonight if I took my med and I did not.....for the same reasons you stated.

I struggle with that one drug.....

    Good luck.

Have a med professional in the family that worked with the permanently unemployed who couldn’t manage to use an alarm clock to get to work on time or even read a clock to tell time. Had to prescribe pills based on TV schedules. Take the blue pill when Judge Judy starts. Take the red pill during the first fight on Jerry Springer...

Let the TV be your Guide.

The easiest answer and hardest to do is to establish a set time for meals. Having started to have to take daily medicine this past year, I have had to change a habit or two and establish more of a standard routine. Getting older sucks!

Uh.........well...........um...........errr.........;just take the pills then eat.....Its all I got for you my friend...:):

I have the same issue ... I am spozed to allow 20-30 minutes between taking Insulin and eating ... I seldom meet that ... but better to take it 1 hr Before - 1 min Before - 1 hr After -- than NOT to take it

I don't have to take a lot of meds - thyroid med first thing in the morning, at least an hour before I eat or 2 hours after I eat, so I keep it in my bathroom drawer with my deodorant, razor and shave cream, so I see it and take it as soon as I get up. Blood pressure medicine in the morning (eating doesn't matter) so I keep it next to the coffee maker. Cholesterol med and baby aspirin in the evening, so it's also next to the coffee maker, but that's just because I'm in the kitchen in the evening so I see it sitting there and take it. But I'm pretty OCD, so that probably helps. :): Point is, I kind of piggyback my med schedule with stuff I know I do every day at about the same time.

I have tried to tie taking that pill with getting a drink of water after I eat (I know I am supposed to take it before but I forget most of the time), and I usually do remember it when I get a drink.

Take your dope when the buzz wears off... duh!

For the first time in my life I have a pill I have to take every night before bed. It’s supposed to help with migraines I guess. I’ve had them for a week and I’ve only remembered to take it twice so far. I’m going to try to find a routine to make remembering easier. I figure if I can make it a habit I won’t even think about it I’ll just do it. Gonna try getting used to taking it right after I brush my teeth before bed and see if I can make it 2nd nature to do so

I am going to sound like an old man...but I am not yet 50...for a few more weeks.

I have 3 prescriptions and 6 supplements. After breakfast Saturday morning, I sit at the dining room table with my pill caddy and 9 bottles and fill up the caddy for the week. If I am running low, I can order then and know I have a week to get them.

Then, I take the handful of pills right after breakfast every day. I also have 1 pill I have to take later in the day around dinner time, so I take that just after. "With" can mean just before, during or after a meal.

As for weekly or monthly, I don't have any of those, but if it was weekly, I would do it when I refill the pill caddy. If monthly, when I pay a monthly bill...though I am not the bill payer in the house, only the bill payer...if you know what I mean.
