    You wouldn’t think something that takes SO long to gain / work up to would leave so quickly. But atleast you have a good reason fostering is a pretty worthy cause.
    After the AT in 2019 I tried to maintain that level of hiking ability(a 15 mile day on almost any terrain was easy to do before noon). It is not easy. Hiking every day all day vs getting in a few hours a day, then a few hours a week was already hurting my speed and endurance. Then I started fostering and it dropped to maybe 2-4 hours a week. It is impossible to maintain what I had in that amount of time. It was not instant but just one year has made a 15 mile day tough again.
