Help recording cell phone calls

I used one on a cell phone. a LONG time ago. and ancient cell phone.

And did it work?

There is no reason the mic would not pick up the sounds. The speaker on the device still vibrates to deliver sound.

But I'm not sure if it works on a modern "smart" phone.

Sure, you could use a mic of some sort to record the conversation, but you’re gonna need an external recording device most likely. I record videos with my phone and a $20 lapel type mic, and the audio sounds great, but it goes directly to the videos audio track. I don’t know how you could record a real time phone conversation on the same phone unless you have a separate recording device.

I wonder if something like this would work, plug it into your phone, plug a headset in one side and a patch cord to a recorder in the other. A bit of a hack, but it might work.
