I sold Tophat45 a sliding parallel guide for taping the vent ribs of shotgun barrels. He wanted to drill and tap the top of a browning high power but my tool was tool small... (sorry Darrel no refunds). He decided to use my tool as a model to make a much larger one that will suit his needs better.

Here are a couple of pictures of the tool from Brownells.

And here is Darrel's that's at least twice as large

Math ensures that as long as the top and bottom links, as well as the two side links are always the same length, they will always remain parallel :)
Very the length of the sides to give different distances between holes.

    How exactly does this work?

edit: actually, never mind. After closer inspection I think I understand it. I'm assuming one needs a mill to really make this properly though?

It's a clever jig Indy. I can see many uses. guns and other wise. I am planning a rifle build base on a Sten(go figure) I want add a scope rail. This gives me a few ideals on how to align it! Thanks

And this new sub forum rocks!!

Indeed it does. Darrel used this jig to drill and tap the top of a browning high power.

When we work on race car chassis we are always having to locate fixtures on tubing and even square stock. Something like this would be perfect for centering every time with little effort.
I need to get some mill time scheduled......:)
