The only currently-released Glock 45 single stack, the G36, holds 6 in the mag. Given the short grip frame on that model, I'm guessing a single-stack full-size would probably come in at 7 or 8...

Judging by case diameters, 6x .45 is equal to 7.3 9mm rounds.

So call it 7 round capacity if it's G36 size.

    I'm guessing it's smaller than a G36.

If the Glock 42 is going to be a single stack .380, my question is will it be available to private buyers? The other Glock .380s (the 25 and 28) are only sold to law enforcement so why would they release another .380 instead of just releasing the two they already have to the private market?

Because a G19/26 sized .380 is gigantic and has a limited market in the US. It would be competing with the LC380, PK380 and Bersa Thunder, all of which sell for under $400. The people buying those are not shelling our $500+ for glocks.

I'm pretty sure the reason the current Glock 380's aren't sold here isn't a business move..it's because of some dumb law.

Yes I think it is an import law. Pretty sure if they produced them domestically the rules would be a little different. What Glock manufactures in Austria vs the US and where they export those products is a marketing decision.

From the SKU of the 42 it is made here in the USA so it will not face the same import restrictions regarding the BATFE points system that the 25 & 28 face.

What is the BATF points system and how does it affect Glocks?
Many of the Glock's parts and sometimes the whole gun are dictated or limited by the BATF's system of "import points". To qualify for import a pistol must score 75 points based on the following system:

    Characteristic Points
    Length: for each 1/4" over 6" 1
    Forged steel frame 15
    Forged HTS alloy frame 20
Unloaded weight w/mag (per oz.) 1
    .22 short and .25 auto 0
    .22 LR and 7.65mm to .380 auto 3
    9mm parabellum and over 10
    Locked breech mechanism 5
    Loaded chamber indicator 5
    Grip safety 3
    Magazine safety 5
Firing pin block or lock 10
    External hammer 2
    Double action 10
    Drift adjustable target sight 5
    Click adjustable target sight 10
    Target grips 5
    Target trigger 2

For example, here is how the G17 scores: Length (7.28") 5
    Weight (24.79oz) 25
    Caliber (9mm) 10
    Locked breech 5
    Firing pin block 10
    Double action 10
    Target sight 10
    Target grips 5
    Total 80

Here is how the Glock 26 scores: Length (6.29") 1
    Weight (21.87oz) 22
    Caliber (9mm) 10
    Locked breech 5
    Firing pin block 10
    Double action 10
    Target sight 10
    Target grips 5
    Target trigger 2
    Total 75

Changes and features made to Glocks to comply with the BATF rules:
    - all models are imported with a cheap click-adjustable rear sight that is replaced at the factory with the stock sight
    - target (grooved) trigger added to compacts & subcompacts
    - target grips added to all models (required for the subcompacts)
    - due to their caliber, .380 autos (G25 & G28) do not score enough points to be imported

What!!! You mean they import Glocks with crap sights only to take them off and replace them with crap sights?

Well i dont think it will be a .380. They already have the 25 and the 28 so if they wanted to get around import laws they could just start making them here. More than likely the 42 will be a single stack 9mm. Personally what i would love for it to be is a 36 with a slightly longer grip for another 2 or 3 rounds and maybe another 1/4 in. of barrell. Oh and this is my first post :)

Ah heck, who needs good sights on a self defense pistol? Afterall, in a high stress situation we should all be trained well in point shooting right?:):
