can you imagine having to show the original bill of sale to get your automobile from police impound? Once mine were paid off, most paperwork other than the title went in the trash.
And if I must show my receipt for my gun, Bubba had better have to show his receipt for his chainsaw, or Bruce the receipt for his mountain bike, etc.
But if you are reporting it stolen including the serial number AND photo proof you possessed it before the loss, there should be no reason to have to provide proof. Insurance companies doesnt require a receipt. Just a serial number, and maybe a photo if you have one.

Yep. Unless there’s a good reason to suspect the person the gun was taken from was not the rightful owner, the ownership should be presumed.

So there should be no "backlog" and run around going forward giving people their property now, right IMPD?

    Right?

Good morning, I'm a reporter working on this issue. I would like to talk to you if you have time
Sorry after getting all the answers telling me to give up. I pretty much have.

Ive put this situation long behind me. I still stuggle with some post traumatic stress from the robbery but life has been good.

Havent been down to the City County building in 2 years.

No kidding. I forgot of this. Now I'm curious.... We are only one extra week out from his original "next week" timeline. Maybe it's still in the works. Maybe there's some issue between IMPD or Indy and the news room that's delayed the final product. Heck, maybe Mr. Essex creates 10 stories per week and only one makes the cut for final production and this story didn't make the cut. Maybe IMPD returned all the property to the rightful owners and this story is moot.
Still havent recieved my property back.

What you do is your call. It sounds like the "policy" changed down at the property room so you may want to give it a run.

I was hoping there would be a bill introduced in this legislative session that addressed this. Maybe next year.
