They aren't ready to file a case against him. You think someone should be able to be held in custody indefinitely while the authorities build a case?

Once they have their case, they will arrest him again and charge him.

And you think someone who attempted to kill 25 cops is going to sit around and wait to be arrested? The dude is going to be in mexico, in fact he probably already is. He is the text book definition of flight risk.

He was on camera and pulled out of the car, it's not like we're wondering whether he was the one behind the wheel.

What are you accusing the police of here? If they haven't built their case, they can't hold him. Looks to me like they want to make damned sure that they have a good case before they do give the case to the DA.
