The year was 1972. I was in the Air Force, and had flown home from Beale AFB (California) because my grandmother had passed away.
When returning to Beale, my oldest friend took me to the Indianapolis airport. It was an early morning flight, and we'd been up all night drinking (heavily). I walked up to the airline check-in counter (in uniform) and loudly declared "I have guns and I have whiskey, but am doing nothing wrong". The statement was true, and the young female airline employee just giggled and took my check-in bag.
I wonder how that scenario would play out today !?!
