Went out today and dropped a couple of trees.. 1st time in awhile, jacked my shoulder up and thought it was my rotator cuff but it was a lot of inflammation.. nothing to do with age ;) but hopefully all behind me
Dropped a small dead walnut and a oak tree with intentions of taking down this hard maple F5BF223F-57AD-4093-A11D-B92EC1EEDF52.jpeg DF6EA7E3-5F60-4C72-B004-7E3C0AD702CC.jpeg

Trying identify this tree. Have cut up 2 or 3 of these and all about 15” at the base and this one is a little bigger so maybe they only have a short life span?…they burn really well and the bark and as the wood burns had a very pleasant smell EACAEE8B-872B-4385-BE0D-D4D22EEE2A74.jpeg E8740CAB-FAB8-4A83-B5A7-D2416AC0EF56.jpeg

Sugar maple, I'll bet my paycheck on it
The bottom trunk looks to be maybe, but the further toward the top you get the pattern goes to what my logger taught me to look for at a distance. If it is sugar maple, you won't know until you get it on the ground and cut it into rounds.

29 rounds from the tree mentioned up thread. I’m using my 18” bar to measure for some consistency. Is an 18” piece of firewood marketable?

Ok, now it's my turn. This tree is every bit of 36" diameter and 90' tall. As you can see, it was marked for harvest the last time my woods was logged but for reasons unknown it was left. The upcoming harvest, they didn't mark it so it get's to stay another round. I can't decide what it is, very distinct bark pattern. The one on the left.

I got to walk most of the property today for the first time in quite a while. Haven't seen the west property line since last fall. To my surprise there really wasn't that many new down trees. A couple that were not a surprise, a couple I wish had gone but are still hanging on, only two across the lanes that have to be cut up to get the gator around them. Not bad. And if you haven't noticed, the ticks are out.

Two trees marked for harvest by logger Jeff.

The one arcing over the lane is marked for culling.

A lot of people on the interwebz has said this Forester 22-Ton Menards special from 2017 was a piece of junk but we must have gotten one made on Wednesday. It has served us well, always starting on the second or third pull no matter the weather.

The OG would LOVE a Wolf Ridge with a log lift. Maybe when this one gives up. We think the ram into the wedge design would speed our production up tremendously.

I've got one of those black Friday specials too. It punches above its weight.
