Headed out in a few.. been so wet .. last ash I brought down didn’t burn so well. Not punky. Have some red oak and more ash that the bark had completely fell off.

Now that it's cold and the ground might be something besides slop, I'll start cutting.

Made a bar and chain rack to hold most of my inventory over the weekend.

Pics of my main 2 wood getters. 361 and an old 066.

Bars and chains: 20" 28" and 36". And an Alaskan 36" mill.

Chain grinder is an Oregon 511 or 520. Honestly cant remember.

My other arsenal is the top handles. Ms192t and 200t. Love me some top handle saws for the treetops :)

bocefus - If time was not a factor, would you say that grinder does as good a job as freehand with a file?
Better than most people with a file. It maintains perfect angles. I can't do that freehand. Some can but not me. So for me the grinder is better than a file.

You can also destroy a chain on a grinder in no time if you dont know how to operate it. I learned how to use it on my 3 worst/ mostly used up chains and picked it up pretty quick.

For chains that hit hidden metal in a tree or heaven forbid a rock, a grinder is the way to go imo.

Brought in a load of sassafrass that I had forgotten about. Colder tomorrow, the gardener isn't interested in going to the woods to cut more up..

    Full disclosure: I'm stihl dealer.

Now that that's outta the way, here's a little prepping info you wood hoarders may find useful.

I was informed today that there is a shortage of stihl saw bars and chains. Lots of the common sizes are already gone, and may not be seen in 2022 at all. We just ordered $15k worth of them, and only got half of what we ordered.

Stock up on bars and chains while you can. I did.

Even some of the aftermarket solutions are getting backordered at this point.

I might be in the market for a chainsaw...know anybody I should talk to?

I've got a tree down in a field I need to cut up and probably some others in the woods that could stand to go as well

At this time, you aren't going to get a discount anywhere due to supply/demand issues. Buy what you want when you see it is my advice.

I'd be happy to help you in your search for a saw but I'm a bit far from you. Noblesville to be exact. Even if you don't wanna come this far, I'll help anyway I can. Just ask.

I got out this afternoon for a bit. The wind had brought down several right in one place and blocked one of the trails.. I can park the ranger and slice up several seasoned ash and an oak tree. It was about perfect out to cut. Set back for a minute and about 25 deer walked in the back of the woods. Really nice for awhile then the freezing rain came in.. headed out tomorrow morning 79E0775C-E38D-4AB5-9872-90481B182DB0.png 73250069-FE63-4CC6-945D-A0D57349D317.jpeg

That UTV must be pretty strong to pull that loaded trailer.

I’m not sure if the exact trailer towing weight..? 1500 pounds? It’s a ranger 800xp and it walks right out with it loaded like that.. even with turf tamer tires on the rear.
So far it’s not over worked it yet and that’s a normal load for it.

Yesterday we went out and grabbed the last 2 ricks we had to deliver. Not long after we headed back to town eastbound I-70 at Cloverdale became a parking lot.

You were lucky, the gardener was driving through that coming back from Lafayette last night.
