Felons can't carry firearms? Sir you'd be incorrect in that assumption....
Depends.
If you are SVF, you cannot possess any type of firearm.

and yet a large number of homicides on our streets are committed by convicted felons with illegal guns. Not sure how it is in other cities but in Indy there are a lot of state and federal prosecutions for gun crimes. Probably due to the homicide numbers.

remember the punk a few weeks back that killed a whole family over stimmy money?
his shooting another punk in the chest five times was plead down to assault and he ws set free.
we can have 100 prosecutors in marion county, if they won't do their job it doesn't help us
I remember these same arguments brought up in the 70s and 80s when gun control advocates started barking about needing more laws. They weren't actually enforcing the ones they already had. Must be that old laws just aren't as stylish as new laws, or maybe it's that new law smell.
get the pitchforks and torches and let's chase chase the prosecutors & judges out of town.I'll chime in on behalf of Marion County, IN - we have LOTS of people on Probation and other forms of community supervision (Home Detention) for Possession of a Firearm cases. If it's your first gun case, it's a class A misdemeanor - one year max, and no prison time. Those are VERY likely to be suspended sentences served on Probation. 2nd time it's a level 5 Felony- 6 years max, prison is a possibility. Those are also likely to be suspended sentences and served on Probation, but more likely with some Home Detention. If you're a serious violent felon, your gun case is now a level 4 felony- 12 years max. These are more likely to get spme prison time, but almost never anywhere near the full 12 years, and often with time suspended and serves on Probation. These are simplifications, and there are lots of circumstances that can change or enhance these charges.
I can personally account for a client on Probation for Robbery, was convicted of a level 4 Felony gun charge, and was allowed to complete Probation successfully. He then started Probation for the gun case, and went out of state (not allowed) and got ANOTHER gun case. That Probation was revoked to home Detention, and he's actually serving Probation at the same time for the out of state gun case, which was a completely suspended sentence. This man NEVER saw the inside of a prison cell.
So yeah, gun charges are not taken very seriously in the Circle City. There are so many.
