No telephone company is obligated to listen to your conversations and advise the authorities if you are believed to be doing unlawful things. It may have worked that way in the GDR with the STASI, but we are not quite there yet (I hope). Twitter should be no different, its just a text party line.
Att has several buildings in key areas of the country that “listen” to every call that passes through their network by means of software to pick up on key phrases and words provided by the three letter agencies that are interested by way of the patriot act. What legislative perks T gets from this is unknown, but I would bet very lucrative. T also provides transport for over 95% of all non local call traffic in this country at some point during that call’s journey. They also have a contract for maintaining a robust “wired” network with multiple diverse routes for the entire DOD’s needs just in case their primary mode of communication goes down. Lots of money flowing into T from the fed. They’ll do just about anything asked by your President.

We don’t need perfect. They don’t even have to be men. They just need to be someone we want to run things and not be a political hack or a blustering ******* of a business man.
That is like looking for a virgin among the street hookers. Just what would the story of a candidate that has the ability to win a house or senate seat be but a political hack or an egotistical billionaire? Not to many other requisites to become a president or senator anymore.

It is interesting to me that for years we heard from some here (not you bob) that they so longed for an outsider, someone that said what they thought, were not scripted, had business experience, did not care about being politically correct, and would challenge the party status quo. WTF??? It actually happened and folks get all squishy.

Getting senile and repeating yourself Mike?

You must've spent a lot of time reading historical posts since you joined in like 2018.

I highly doubt anyone just wanted an outsider without any other considerations......

People are squishy because rather than enthusiastically vote for the porn star ****er, they hold their nose and reluctantly choose the least evil over the senile, corrupt, socialist pedo?

Over the holiday, I have encountered people that consume the MSM and repeat it. It has left me curious about Twitter simply because they all insisted that Elon Musk has destroyed Twitter with his paid blue check thing, firing all of the employees, and all of the advertisers leaving. They portrayed it all as Twitter is on its death-bed and Musk is about to lose all of the millions that he paid for it.

I pay no attention to the media, but enjoy reading the threads on INGO. I have read through this thread from the beginning and this is the first I have heard about Twitter being about ready to go under. What's the story on this?

Elon himself has mentioned that twitter might have to declare bankruptcy. I’m not sure it’s ever made a profit. At least I’ve read/heard people say that. I have read that some number of advertisers have pulled their advertising budgets after Elon took over. On the other hand I’ve read where user activity is as high or higher than it’s ever been. The fact he could fire that many people and the thing is still running as good or better than it has in a long time tells me he probably made the right move there. I’m not a big consumer of twitter but I do have an account there that I used to follow news, weather, and sports outlets I like to follow and to me, it seems like the reports of twitter’s demise was quite premature. Seems like the censorship is mostly gone too.

The one sided nonsense seems to be gone. Wacko lefties are actually getting suspended now, which is a huge change.

The MSM is upset that Musk is no longer allowing Twitter to be a progressive hell hole. Both sides are allowed to give their opinions now without fear of being suspended for not following group think.

The employees they got rid of seem to be the ones that pushed political agendas and didn't really want to work very hard. Even with this much reduced staff they have been able to make changes that have improved things for the majority of users.

Now he is saying he is going to show exactly what was going on before he bought it. That of course has progressives upset too.

They are far from their death bed.

Musk pretty much announced amnesty for users who were previously banned for reasons not related to breaking the law.

Many controversial conservatives were recently unbanned, so it’s looking like free speech is back on Twitter. As far as paid blue check, originally the blue check only signified that you are verified. So you had to use your real name and prove you are the person with that name. Then you got the blue check. But then twitter turned it into just a status symbol. Only people with some notoriety, journalists, people with a lot of followers, could get blue checks.

Musk should at least have restored it to the way it was. Verified users. And then if he want’s to charge $8 per month for that, whatever.

When I still worked for Lucent Technologies in the early 2000s, we were installing and testing what was then the new 4G wireless network for Sprint. Somehow, this RF guy got stuck testing and then demonstrating to law enforcement a "feature" which proved compliance with CALEA: the Communication Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, a law passed during the Clinton Administration. The Wikipedia article linked to below is actually quite good at explaining the law and its implementation at a basic level.

But essentially, now as always, you can assume that anything that you say or type and send over wires or airwaves can be intercepted and recorded, encryption notwithstanding. All carriers are required to comply.

Tim Pool reported some funny stories about lefties abandoning twitter and moving to Mastodon. They go there thinking it's a safe space, and then find out there is almost no moderation. So then they complain at Mastodon because people offended them and Mastodon didn't ban them like Twitter used to. And then Mastodon leadership told them to use the mute feature and that they'd be banned if they continued wasting his time.

But they are somewhat moderated. They don't tolerate racist slurs, so some lady got banned for racial slurs when she said all white people are racists!
