How was this grift performed?
Were the "listeners" just plants? They offered a $100 cash prize if he couldn't guess it and I'd never ever heard someone actually get it. I heard the show every day while I was growing up; my mother would listen to his show while taking me to school - or from school, I don't remember which.
I don't see any other way this would be possible. If someone else can figure out a way the scam worked feel free to chime in and honk your horn - I promise I'll guess wrong.
