Red tiger 4K on Amazon. It works well and actually comes with a rear camera that’s super easy to install as well. Just make sure you buy the right kind of SD card because the ones not made for this kind of use will fail.

The app works well and it uses its own Wi-Fi that connects to your phone to view videos that way and download them.

I'm not ready to recomend, my freind. I have been looking for a solution myself for some time though.

I'm not sure it will work for everything I hope, but I've run into the new 360 action cameras in relation to the motorcyle and more. I wonder if this might be a solution that could move between motorcyle and the car, along with handheld and maybe the range?

I used to have a Uniden dash cam but it glitches out in the winter when the temp dropped below 30.

Now I have Rexing V1 dash cams in 3 of my vehicles. They record on a loop, so no need to delete recordings to free up memory. Crash detection automatically saves the clip from being written over. You can add the option for gps tracking, and there is an option for a rear camera as well. I have never had issues with them glitching in extreme heat or cold. Very user friendly and easy to use.

The newer models have built in Wi-Fi so you can connect to the cam and view or download clips. I’ve been using Rexing for about 4-5 years and have been very happy with them.

I've used this one in my truck for over 2 years, front and rear cam:

I did replace the suction mount with a higher quality one.

I got my wife one many years ago that's forward facing only and glues in place. Roav was the brand name, and also from Amazon. She's had it maybe 3-4 years, I don't see the same model any longer.

Please excuse my ignorance on this subject.

Is this something that you need because you often have incidents/accidents while driving or just something you're willing to deal with just in case something ever does happen?

Other than 1 vehicle accident (other guys fault) in the last 30 years and an occasional impaired or aggressive driver, I don't remember seeing anything I would've needed or wanted to record.

Is it a piece of mind thing like insurance or a tech type gizmo that I'm too old and square to understand?

Hit and runs have become more problematic in the recent years. Also, eye witness statements are often inaccurate. If you have a green light but some witness says yours was red, you have video to confirm. Someone cuts you off in a fit of road rage, and hits their brakes to make you run into them. Several reasons to have a dash cam these days.

My initial reason for buying a dash cam came around 2016 when I was cruising down the road in the slow lane since my exit was coming up. Some asshat comes up on my bumper so close I can’t see his headlights. Honking at me and tailgating me since I guess he didn’t like the fact that I was going the speed limit in the slow lane. He ended up zipping around me and cutting me off right before we both took the same exit. He threw it in park and ran out his door and up to my drivers door, shouting and telling me to get out and fight him. Of course I cracked the window and told him in a not-so-polite way to get his wife beater wearing ass back in his car and drive away because he didn’t want any of this. He punched my door and went back to his car and drove off. Had things escalated to a self defense level, video evidence would have been crucial. That’s why I started using a dash cam.

Thanks BW, this looks like just the ticket (other than the price). Still interesting enough considering possible alternate uses.

As stated upstream I think many elect to use them for purposes other than accidents. I you using one with a good field of view, it can provide coverage for the drivers window. just like home video of a person breaking into a home a picture is priceless.

Too many crazy slimy litigious people out there, and you are always a target.
We had a really insane (certified) neighbor who claimed that i tried to run over his dog, and called police on me. The officers investigated, found no evidence, and recommended that we get dash cams for all our cars in case the crazy tries to take me to court. Video evidence carries infinitely more weight than verbal claims.

Even the cheapo Walmart ones work quite well, record on a loop, and have very good picture quality. The only problem as mentioned above is the suction cup.
