After months of searching for an MTR or LRP, I came across an Armslist national ad with this in it. Called the next morning and it was still there. Bought it and am in love with the small details and overall fit and finish.

    Enough talking…….

Thats slick, bur is it a “Thumbhole“?

I’ve been keeping an eye out for the thumbhole 457 in .17 w/fluted bbl and a single-set trigger, but have only seen one on GB in 5 years, and I didn’t see it until after the auction closed.

First shots today at an indoor range. Action is smooth once bolt is lifted up. Very snug coming in and out.

Trigger was nice and crisp. Will look to adjust it after I get more time to know what needs tweaking.

Cheek height was great and a natural lineup with the scope’s eye relief. The throw bar for the zoom is wonderful, my first one.

This is at 50ft with CCI SV. 5 shot groups.

Looks pretty odd with the barrel not bedded to the stock. I seen those works of art stocks i think over 10yrs ago. Company outa Texas. Been so long i can't remember.

I've seen some 10/22 stocks with the floating barrel, it sure is different from the norm, looks sweet.

Time for an update. After some range time I didn’t like the vortex and having to manually focus. Found a member here that was selling an Arken SH4 and picked that up. (Great guy).

After several tries on rings I finally found some that worked better. Still a bit high and I may need to add some for a proper cheek rest.

Next step is to start adjusting the screw tension on the stock/receiver and learn to adjust the trigger.

Once you get it dialed in, you may very well be able to achieve the groups shown above at 50 yd instead of 50 ft. Nice rifle!

I really considered this model before I bought my 16" chassis 457. My biggest concern was the cheek height, which it does seem like you're running into a bit.

For what it's worth, mine really shoots CCI standard velocity well. I've messed around with all sorts of fancy match ammo, and the CCO shoots just as good as any of it and sounds great through my can.

That's the one I want. A nickel a trigger pull vs 10 times that. Ugh...

That's the truth! I floundered for a while trying to decide between the standard chassis and the MTR version, but read the MTR chamber doesn't like cheap or high velocity ammo. Went with the standard figuring I could always swap the barrel later. Absolutely no need to.

Sorry for the thread hijack, OP. Looks like you've got a good shooter there though!

So far I’ve been shooting CCI sv and it’s done fairly well. Just ordered some wolf, Sk, Eley target & club, and a few others to try out.

Anxious to see how it does as the distance increases. My goal for this year is to land 5 shots from 300yds in the 8 ring or higher.

So far 230yd is the longest I’ve shot with my 10/22. Anxious to see what I can do with this one.

Well…. Today was my best long distance accuracy I’ve ever had.
Targets set up at 25, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 230. Once I zero’d the scope on the CZ at 50 I started going out further. Had some paper and started recording the clicks up from zero. There was no skill in what I did. I simply looked for where the bullet was hitting and adjusted from there. Once I could hold hit center with the crosshairs I looked at the dial and wrote it down.
This did give me enough experience to know what to search for. Looking into ballistic calculators now.

    On to the fun stuff….
Wow…. I’ve never been able to quickly adjust the scope so there’s no holdover when shooting different distances. For years I’ve used a Nikon 3x9 and relied on the BDC indicator and zoom level.

I had steel at 100, 150, and 230. Once I had each of those dialed in I was almost giggling when I realized how easy it was to simply dial in the MIL for that range and then simply use crosshairs. No holdover needed other that for wind.

For the true test I waited till the end of the day to shoot the official 200yd shots. I used the top 2 targets to dial in the scope. The one on the bottom is what I saved for my last shots of the day.

8” target at 200yds, 20 shots and 20 hits. I’ve never done that before

That's some solid performance out of a rimfire rifle!

Once you set up a MIL or MOA scope with matching reticle & turrets it's very easy to see why that setup is used by pretty much everyone in long range shooting. Like you said, it's almost funny how easy it becomes to make adjustments.

    What ammo were you slinging?
