Ballard has not done as well as Robinson and he is out.
Heard there was a power struggle between Robinson and Vrabel. Owner obviously sided with Vrabel.
Ballard has not done as well as Robinson and he is out.
“Could Payton and Brady team up in 2023? It would have to be a team that has all the pieces except a quarterback and a coach. The Colts would be a possibility. Who else? That may be it.”
Sean Payton jokes about he and Tom Brady getting "another team in trouble"
Earlier this year, after Sean Payton left the Saints and Tom Brady "retired" from the Buccaneers, we reported that the Dolphins wanted to bring both of them to Miami.profootballtalk.nbcsports.com
He's not wrong.Payton said he would not be joining any “dysfunctional” teams. It’s basically been 100% confirmed that he was specifically talking about Indy.
Gotta say. I'm not excited to watch any of them. It’s the bye week, but here are some teams to root for this weekend.
Cardinals (@New England)
Jaguars (@Tennessee)
Panthers (@Seattle)
All of them are currently at 4 wins.
Seems an interesting bye week topic: There seems to be consensus that the Colts are “dysfunctional“. What exactly makes the Colts “Dysfunctional“? I have heard very little of that type of complaint from my friends that are sports fans away from INGO. Some here even post as if they have something personal against Irsay.
I do think Bob Irsay, an out of control drunk, was dysfunctional but for all Jim’s issues, being raised by Bob for one, the team has been pretty stable since Jim took over. I believe the Colts hire football people and let them do their jobs, I do not see Irsay on the field, coaching, like I have some owners, We do not have constant rumors, drama and firings, In fact the biggest compliment hear out of INGO is that Irsay is too patient.
My perspective is based on years of following not only the games but the business of football. For a guy in a very small market, I think Irsay has done pretty good. So why do so many here say different?
When Luck retired the Colts lost their franchise QB with no plan in place to replace him. That put them 2-3 years behind for sure. How are the Patriots doing theses days? What about the Rams with Stafford injured. Steelers without Big Ben? I'm not sure any one person is to blame but Irsay may be too patient.
I kinda took those outcomes as being the fruit of the situation coming to a head. Those are never pretty and keep the NFL press in fodder to gossip about. I still believe something was going on behind the scenes that caused a mid season change at coach. It is rather ugly to know it is over and still pretend to be married for several more months…I think the hesitancy towards Irsay has more so to do with him making decision that he has no business making. I agree that he doesn’t have a history of doing that, but this year he really ramped it up.
Make no mistake, Jim Irsay benched Matt Ryan. Not Reich or Ballard.
Jim Irsay fired Frank Reich. Not Chris Ballard.
Jim Irsay hired Jeff Saturday. Not Chris Ballard.
It’s very difficult now for candidates to step into this organization and trust that the owner will let you do your job without undermining your decisions.
And they have sucked since.Well the Patriots drafted a quarterback in the 1st round.
They have sucked due to injuries this year. The Rams won a Super Bowl.
And they struggle in every game. The Steelers drafted a quarterback in the 1st round.
Brisset, Hoyer, Rivers, Wentz, Ryan, Ehlinger is trying but failing. Typical of a dysfunctional team.Chris Ballard hasn’t even attempted to solve the team’s long term need at QB.
Just cannot get on board with this post. That the greatest coach (BB) of recent times struggles to find a franchise QB means it is not a given that a team is dysfunctional just because they go through several QB’s looking for a franchise QB…Brisset, Hoyer, Rivers, Wentz, Ryan, Ehlinger is trying but failing. Typical of a dysfunctional team.
Every team struggles to find a "Tom Brady". I think the dysfunctional term comes from some of the other moves management has made. And there has been plenty of them.Just cannot get on board with this post. That is what I’m trying to figure out, what are those moves that folks find dysfunctional…Every team struggles to find a "Tom Brady". I think the dysfunctional term comes from some of the other moves management has made. And there has been plenty of them.

I agree you need to draft a quality QB. Hit or miss you gotta try. The whole thing sounds a bit dysfunctional don't you think? But they tried. They took a swing. You can’t hit a homerun by bunting every time you’re at the plate.
With the exception of possibly Wentz, those other guys barely count as trying. Just a bunch of stop-gaps. Rivers and Ryan were/are at the end of their career and declining. Brissett and Hoyer are at best serviceable backups, and that was already known about them. Ehlinger is a 6th rounder that doesn’t really possess the physical tools to be a starter.
Again, with the possible exception of Wentz, Chris Ballard has never been willing to take a risk at quarterback. And honestly even Wentz wasn’t as big of a risk as a rookie QB. We had seen him play at an MVP level before.
You HAVE to take a risk on a rookie QB. You just have to. Maybe it works and maybe it doesn’t but you have to take a swing.
And that IMHO is why Ballard will be gone. Funny how timing works, I wonder if Irsay gave Ballard an extra year this season because his kid played football at Westfield and this was his senior year.I agree you need to draft a quality QB. If so that's a great thing to do.And that IMHO is why Ballard will be gone. Funny how timing works, I wonder if Irsay gave Ballard an extra year this season because his kid played football at Westfield and this was his senior year.
