Haha, which year are you referring too? They have sucked for a while.
Teams without franchise QB’s tend to consistently suck.

I still find it unfathomable that only ten, or so, people on the planet can do what [insert your favorite franchise QB] can do. Anyone that can will make literally millions.

That’s what so fascinating to me about Andrew Luck.

There are maybe five or six people on earth with the gifts that he had. But he walked away to save himself from himself. That takes some incredible fortitude.

And to your point, he walked away from at least half a billion dollars. Maybe more.

Un-Luck seems to keep coming up lately. :lmfao:

Over a million kids play high school football and still can’t find 32 pro franchise QB’s…

Part of the problem is that decision makers in front offices don't always know who will be good in the NFL. Lot's of QB's get drafted high and don't do anything. Remember Ryan Lief? Drafted 2nd overall in 1998? Yeah, no one else does either. Played 25 games. Got into drugs and alcohol. Went to prison.

Mitch Trubisky. Bears drafted him #2 overall. Ryan Pace was convinced he'd be great. By all accounts Ryan Leif should have been great. Trubisky, why would anyone have drafted such an untested player so high in the draft?

Maybe guessing who's gonna be a franchise QB is hard? Or maybe some GM's are just ****ing stupid.

If you’re lucky, you get a Derek Carr or a Kirk Cousins. Really solid starters that are good enough to annually keep you in the playoff hunt.

If you’re really really really lucky, you get a Mahomes or a Josh Allen. The truly gifted guys that give you a chance at a championship every year.

All the other 20 to 25-ish teams are fumbling around in the dark trying to find “the guy”.

Beginning with over a million kids in high school football, they are evaluated by coaches trying to win, then the best of the best play college football, again coached by those under tremendous pressure to win, then the best of the best of those make their way to the pros and the league cannot find enough franchise QB’s out of all that.

One in a thousand yes. I wouldn’t call that some lol
Well yeah. Brady was picked so late because his physique was one of the worst in the draft. Teams thought that mattered. But anyway, it goes to the whole point of how difficult it is to pick the guy who will be a franchise player.

It's not all luck. But there's a lot of luck to it. Picking Ryan Leif was bad luck. Picking Trubisky was just plain ****ing stupid. So there's also having the instincts to know who is gonna be that guy, and the luck part is that guy living up to his prior reputation. With some QB's it's easy, but not certain. It was obvious with Andrew Luck. Who knew he'd quit in what should've be his prime years? Not that I blame him. You can pick the guy and still have luck make it wrong.

Just to add to the previous comments regarding how much luck is involved in drafting QB's, or any other position for that matter, consider the following:

Patrick Mahomes was the 10th pick in the 2017 draft, but not the first QB. Of the 9 players selected before him, only two are still playing for the team that drafted them. The Colts had 8 picks in that draft, only one of them, DT Grover Stewart taken in the 4th round, is still on the team.

Josh Allen was the 7th pick in the 2018 draft, but the 3rd QB selected behind Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold. Lamar Jackson was the 32nd player picked in that draft. The Colts did better in that draft, still have 6 of the 11 players selected.
