I found this Colt 1911 Competition model 45 ACP at a local shop this afternoon. Asking price was $999 which is about $50 over MSRP. I left it there because I have never really looked much at Colt for a 1911. I know that Colt is synonymous with 1911s but didn't feel that I knew enough to buy it. I went there looking for a Springfield Range Officer or Loaded model.

For me, it would be primarily a range gun. For this money, is it a decent pistol compared to others I could buy in this price range? Any pros or cons from current or former Colt owners?

    Thanks

I personally like those. Not everyone does...they're polarizing. But if I walked in to that shop with a grand to spend on a 1911 and could get that Colt OTD for $1000 or less then yeah I'm all over it.

I'm not a fan of the blue grip panels but they could grow on me. It felt mighty good in my hand.

I’m a Colt fan and that particular model has a lot of features most 1911 guys want, commander style hammer, upswept grip safety with bump, light weight trigger, better sights and G10 grips. If you don’t like the blue grips they take 2 minutes to swap out and the 1911 has thousands of grips options to choose from. They’re asking $999 for it but I’d offer $950 OTD and see what happens.

Assuming it felt well fit up in hand I would go for it at that price. It will make a fantastic base gun should you choose to change it later.
