Close Contact Handgun taught by Cecil Burch of Immediate Action Combatives will be in the Terre Haute area September 10th and 11th. The course curriculum is designed to teach students how to maintain distance, and NOT get into an entangled physical fight so they can best use their pistol. Material covered will include:
    • Maintaining Spatial Relationship
    • Functional Footwork
    • Presenting the pistol through an appropriate line of extension and compression
    • Retention Shooting
    • Proper Verbalization
    • Recognizing when to go to the gun and when not to
We will be working live fire on the range, as well as drilling concepts with blue guns. At the end we will pressure test our new skills in Force-on-force scenarios against resisting opponents with opposing will and freedom of action using UTM marking cartridges.

The instruction portion will be Friday evening/night at McVickers Martial Arts in Terre Haute starting around 6pm and Saturday will be a full day at Riley Conservation Club starting about 8am. Saturday will consist of a live fire portion in the morning until lunch. After lunch on Saturday will be force on force with simunitions (included in course tuition). Students need a firearm, at least 3 magazines, a good holster, and roughly 300-350 rounds of ammunition. The ammunition requirement may be a bit flexible based on current times and ammunition availability. If you have your own training knives or guns feel free to bring them. Tuition is $350, and space is limited.

Attached to this post are course photos. Below I have also included a link to Immediate Action Combatives webpage and a link to an article in RECOIL Off Grid about the course.

We have had other INGO members train with Cecil in the past that have many positives things to say. Myself as well as other INGO members will be students, so I hope to see you there! -Billy

OP, how would describe the level of physicality required for the class (from the perspective of an old geezer getting older and stiffer every day)? :oldwise:

Not the OP, and I haven't taken this specific class, but I have taken similar classes...

The class will require some physical activity. Everything will be voluntary and can very likely be scaled to most any level of physical ability.

There may be some techniques taught on Friday that require pushing and pulling against a resisting body. In general I expect that portion to mostly be light, consensual and cooperative to learn the techniques. Perhaps with some non-consensual, moderately competitive exercises to praxticece it with resistance. It will likely not be like a fight.

Saturday afternoon will include some non-consensual, competitive FoF exercises. The intensity can ramp up, but I would guess students are paired with people they can learn from and not get smashed by. These can be scaled and, in general, no one wants to kill anyone. It will probably feel intense and taxing but I'm confident you can do it.

I would say that, if you can walk around the block, do a couple push ups, and get yourself up off the floor unaided, you can make it through this class.

Outstanding class on Saturday. Good group of folks. Many thanks to Billy, McVicker's Martial Arts, and Riley Conservation Club for coordinating, hosting, etc., and of course Glen and Cecil for their instruction and professionalism.
