We watched a Bald Eagle and a Hawk fighting for an hour at our place last summer. It was neat to hear them screeching at each other. The female Eagle sat in a tree on our property the whole time. I would love to see them nest on our property but they live at the lake nearby.

Don
How did you know the one sitting in the tree was a female? Maybe the female was doing the fighting while the male sat in the tree.

I deer hunt off Meridian Road. Saw an immature eagle often this season. One adult a couple of times.
About 3 weeks ago an immature one was circling just off our shore for awhile. Finally landed in a tree in our yard right on shoreline. Sat there looking and watching for about 10 minutes. Then I saw a mature adult coming our way. Young one immediately took off and disappeared. Adult circled a couple times then landed in same tree the young one had been in. Apparently the adult‘s wishes trumps the young ones.

Out here where I live in California it's Osprey. This one hangs on the power pole next to my shop; there's usually a stinky pile of fish guts at the base of it. He and his mate nest on a nearby cell tower. He's got about a 5' wing span; impressive when he comes in to perch on the pole.

not lost, wandering...
Just saw a Sharp Shinned Hawk under the pine trees. Unique light gray color, mostly solid with subtle but noticable striping on the tail feathers. Had something small pinned down and flew off with it before I could snap a pic but looked it up for reference;
The squirrels & chipmunks are still in hiding, lol

This hawk and I had a close encounter at the White Castle at 38th and Moeller at lunchtime today. It flew straight at me while I was in the drive-through line and slammed on the brakes and landed on the cowling right in front of my face. We were literally 2 feet apart looking at each other like what the ****?

I slowly reached for my cell phone to take a picture but it was in a windshield mount and it flushed him away. He lit in a tree in the corner of the parking lot and I was able to park my van and walk up behind him and take a picture. I then walked around the side and caught him looking at me over his shoulder.

Finally, as I was driving away I managed to snap one more of him sitting in the same place from Moeller Road. All in all a very bizarre encounter. I wish the pictures were clearer.

When I first retired, I was still in shape to make the trek along the banks of White River, to reach an Eagle's nest that a DNR personnel was kind enough to show me.
Over the course of the next three years, I photographed the mated pair (and their offspring) many times.
Eventually, they learned to recognize me, and I was not a worry to them.

He flies into the bush near the sunroom where several birds shelter and flushes them out toward the sunroom. A few always whack into the window, which stuns them and then he just snatches them off the ground.
We must have a relative of your bird. Does the same thing.
