Just a quick inquiry as to what people here are using to clean a muzzle loader when you are done for the hunting season. I currently use a mixture of peroxide, alcohol, and murphys soap oil

You want/need water to counteract the corrosives.
It's also cheaper and easier than most other methods.
Been working for a couple hundred years...

Hydrogen peroxide will etch the barrel steel if used incorrectly. That was only a last resort for a burn ring. Hit water and dish soap are all you need. Lightly oil after dry.

Step 1: Dawn dish soap, water, fully dry by the stove or with a hairdryer.

Step 2: Butch’s blackpowder bore shine.

Step 3: Final bore coat using CVA slick lube non petroleum grease or lube. It’s like a bore butter. Exterior metal use any regular rust prevention gun oil. All this is for blackpowder substitutes other than Blackhorn.

Blackhorn: use their recommended cleaner from Montana Extreme. Then bore coat with slick lube.

I went through a few regimens over the years and this is the best cleaning process yet. No rust colored goop from oils in the bore and no corrosion.

HOT water with Dawn dish detergent
Repeat as needed until clean, then 1 more time
Dry with heat gun or hair dryer
    Bore butter on the inside
Johnson's paste wax on the outside of the barrel

This is the procedure for a sidelock muzzleloader. It's been working since 1980.

Revolvers get bathed in hot soap water. Long guns get hot water from the coffee pot down the barrel and over the flint and pan. Barrel gets brushed, dried, and blasted with Balistol. Exterior gets wiped and Remoil.

Straight water honestly cleans pretty good.
