A brand new automatic camera that lasted a few days.
    It was installed this month.

The fine if over $75K and up to 5 years in jail if you get caught destroying one.
A radar camera costs arounds $30K.

Stores selling angle grinders near the highway must make a fortune. :):

This one was cut, and set on fire a few months ago.

We also have unmarked cop cars with radars on board parked on the side of the road.
Not sure if it's a thing in the US. :dunno:

Yeah, it is. More and more unmarked and stealth cars in use all the time. I've seen pickups, minivans, sports cars, you name it.

Does that have a camera in it?

Yes, camera and radar in the back.

The new unmarked cars have cameras both front and rear and they use them in trafic, not just parked.

They can cover 3 lanes on the highway

Notice that those cars are equipped with a large fire extinguisher for the passenger.
They know what happens to most speed cameras.

It's all about safety. And they punish us for our own good, you know. I have to admit, I do like the french response to the standalone cameras. Viva La... kick ass! (sorry, don't know french)

Dang. They're worse than the ones around here.

I have to say though, all that :poop: in the windows makes them pretty easy to spot. Not that that will help against the radar.

The new ones are harder to spot.
They still have cameras on the dashboard but if the car is on the left lane (on the highway) as you pass it on the fast lane (well above the speed limit) you won't notice that on your rear view mirror.

They also have infrared flashes to take pictures now, so no visible flash at night anymore.
It's the black box right under the licence plate.
Hard to notice this detail if you're speeding.

The radar is now hidden behind the licence plate.

The back camera behind the rear window is smaller too.

The camera on the back is to take picture of motorcycles coming from the opposite lane, since they only have a licence plate on the back.
