Well, that coop/run will technically support 12 birds (4 sq feet per bird, and 3-4 birds per next box).

If I end up with more than 5, I'll be firing up the BBQ. I'm not going to "raise" chickens. We want some fresh eggs, and the "livestock" experience for our family.

I read this thread a few evenings ago so I decided to share a picture of my coop. I built it with all free and recycled materials.

lol that is what i and every single person i know said in the beginning. google "chicken math". if you plan to only have 3-4 chickens then build a coop that will hold is 2 or 3 times as many chickens than you are planning on. by doing so you can save a lot of money in the long run.
    Yup...

Built mine for 15-20. At one time we had 50. We're back down to 25 now.

Just made this one for my in-laws. Easy maintenance setup, the floor slides out of the coop to be dumped easily, the first run outside the coop is completely enclosed, no need to lock up the coop every night if you're not home. Didn't think of taking pictures to share, it's the best shot I've got.

And then I built this one for my mom for Christmas 2012:

Looked all over my photobucket, can't find a single picture of my coop other than that overcrowded inside shot.
