I was looking through some old threads and i see that someone was doing their own checkering. I always wanted to try it and wanted to know if anyone has and preferred place and/or brands for checkering files, jigs, etc.

I'm planning on practicing on some tube stock or something first.

    thanks!

I've done a lot of checkering, I usually get my files from Brownells. I had a jig before but I didn't really like it, I usually just put a piece of flat stock on the bushings next to the frame and run a C clamp around to the frame jig in the grip cut out. You will need a frame jig.

Very cool. Great to know! I was thinking about Brownells, but wasn't sure if there was a super secret spot that people prefer to buy from.

I do also need a frame jig, so it looks like I'll be making a purchase this weekend!

I'll post some pictures of my tinkering around. It's probably going to take me some time to get comfortable with dropping a file on one of my 1911s.

    Thanks!

The SDM jig or the Harrison jig are nice.
