    +1+1 guys!:yesway:

IMHO, If we are pro-USA than we had better know our Constitution and only vote for those who know the Constitution & will honor their oath of Office.
Sorta eliminates a lot of the candidates does it not?

And yes, I'm a single issue voter ....it's called the Constitution!

I believe a individual can be pro gun but I agree with others that say his party or side may make him say otherwise. I was raised republican but the more political I get, I have no idea what side I'm on. I did hear obama say once he is pro gun and has no intention of touching or taxing or 2nd amendment rights. The more tv I watch and the more debates I see I don't trust either one of them. I think I should run for pres...lol

You do well to not trust either of them.

Back to the original question - Can you be a Democrat and pro-gun? Yes, but IMO if you are really pro-2Amd then it will only last until you understand that your party is going to do all in it's power to take your guns away form you.....then you will be....hopefully a Constitutionalist:patriot:

I too came from the dark side. When I was wise enough to realize what was going on I left the dems my family worshiped and started voting a split ticket, or the best person for the job. It was more evident as I got wiser the things in life I held dear were under attack by the major players in the democratic party. I guess a dem could be a good gunner but I look beyond my second ammendment rights and though these rights are sacred to me, I have to obey God and stand up for moral issues as well. Here again the major players in the dem party are lacking just as much as some of the republicans.

Well said. When asked why I left the DemocRat Party. I qoute Ronadl Reagan. "I did not leave the DemocRat Party. The Party left me!":twocents:

Dodgebydave my friend, I like your attitude. I think We the People sometimes speak too softly. I hope there are more people like you out there come November 4, 2008. It will be another four year before we can speak again. I hope it will not be to late.

We the People may have to speak louder.

To elaborate on my earlier answer of "no", I think it is basically impossible for a democrat to be a true 2A supporter because of the pressures from his/her party.

I visited Brad Ellsworth's (Dem from the Bloody 8th) site today after seeing he was endorsed by the NRA. Sure enough, at one of the areas in the site there was an Obama ad. So he supports 2A, but at the same time wants you to vote for a guy that is going to be an absolute threat to the 2A. That doesn't make an logical sense.

Personally, I like Brad Ellsworth. He cosigned on H.R. 4900 which was a bitch slap to the ATF despite the fact it never reached the floor (how a bill with over 220 cosigners never gets voted on I have no clue) and he has not been involved with any anti-gun legislation thus far. Anytime Ive emailed his office about an issue, Ive always gotten a pretty favorable response and he seems very willing to work with the NRA on issues.

Just because someone supports a certain candidate doesn't mean they are anti-gun. My parents have purchased many a firearm for me (I am still 17 but only for a month) but have understandable reasons for feeling the way they do based on the way leadership has handled issues primarily related to their professions. My mom's a teacher and No Child Left Behind has made teaching a real pain in the ass in addition to damaging the quality of public education. I know some of you are Mitch supporters and as an American who strongly believes in a person's right to his own opinion and beliefs, I do not fault you, but for my father who is a civil engineer for INDOT the increased amount of trivial paperwork and the number of people he has seen demoted or let go for dubious reasons is understandably not sitting well. Does this make them rabid anti-gunners simply because there are more important issues to them than firearms? I certainly don't think so, at least not anymore. I also don't agree with them on every issue but there is merit to their stance on many issues that I will not discredit. We've had many a discussion over politics here at the house and never have I heard them attack a persons freedom to own a firearm. There was a time when my parents hated guns and to be honest so did I, but as I saw the light and showed them that I could handle a firearm responsibly, they too began to see the merit in owning and collecting firearms. I now have twelve firearms which they have helped me to acquire.

Having said this, firearms still remain a rather minor issue to them and as a result they do not vote based on a politician's stance on guns. I guess you can fault them for occasionally being apathetic towards guns but they most certainly are not anti-gun.

A demoncrat can be pro 2nd amendment and stick to their guns all the way up the political ladder, if he/she can stand the heat.

I have always been a repukean until this election cycle. This time around I am not voting for either McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden.

I have found that elusive third party that places the Constitution in its proper place and the government in its place under that Constitution. The Libertarian Party seeks to limit government and get rid of its unconstitutional bureaucracy. The Barr/Root ticket seeks to pave the way for that movement away from our bloated government.

The Libertarian Party needs your vote to gain at least 5% of the popular vote. If it does so, the party will automatically be on the ballot in all 50 states in the next election cycle, as well as, becoming eligible for public financing. When this happens, the Libertarian Party will not have to waste all its donations and funds on fighting to get on every state ballot. The party will then have money to actually run a political race rather than waste it all with little or no chance of taking their campaign before the public.

So, if you are looking for that elusive third party, then check out the Libertarian Party and its candidates.

Aye, gents; that is the rub. More than one issue to be considered.

But once you boil it all down, how often does that stance on the second amendment reflect what that candidate represents on the rest of the issues?

And how many of those issues are under the same constant attack?

What going to be the next issue after the repeal of the 2nd amendment?

    :dunno:

I hear you Santee. The problem is that if you want any traction in politics in this country, you have to fit into one or the other party. I believe that Obama is a Socialist with his membership in the New Party (NP) and his associations with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), yet he runs as a Democrat. Many will tell you that a vote for Barr is a vote for Obama. I, as a Libertarian, have to agree, sad as it is. So for this cycle, I will use Obama's tactic and fit into the opposing side to try to try and keep from having a socialist triumvirate of the far far left, Obama/Pelosi/Reid.

The old Democrates were liberal but they still loved America, were pro-gun and pro worker. The new Democrate party is Pro-government and pro-power. Everyday I hear about another Democrate policy that I disagree with. Gun control, gay rights, abortion, church vs state, entitlements, etc. Conservetives do cling to God, guns and guts. We believe more in personal responsibility.

The Democrat party was converted and co-opted into a socialist, pacificist, amoral party in the 1970's. It's not the party your parents or grandparents voted for. It now exists to undermine everything and everyone that made this country great.
