I have two S&W Model 66's, one 4" and one 2" and I love them both, but this one is my favorite.

It's a Manurhin MR73, and yes it's well worn, but the surfaces of the metal are smooth as glass. IMHO it's one of the finest revolvers in the world. The adjustable trigger is amazing.

    From Wikipedia:
"Every MR 73 is match grade accurate, shipped with its own factory test target fired at 25 m (27.3 yd). Averaging 15 rounds, no group over 20 mm (0.79 in) diameter with selected ammunition is allowed.

The MR 73 has an adjustable trigger weight in both double-action and single-action modes, a feature found in other high-end revolvers such as Korth and Janz. These adjustments do not alter the strength of the main spring, ensuring reliable primer ignition. This is due to the use of roller bearings in the trigger mechanism along with extensive hand fitting and polishing of components during assembly. The MR73 requires more than 12 hours of hand-fitting at the factory, making it about 50% more expensive than competing U.S.-manufactured brands.[3]"

That is one well loved gun!!! Honest wear on that!!

One of the few guns I wish I had back was my SP101 snubbie in 357.

Also had a GP100 but it was a 6" stainless. If I got one again it would be 3 or 4".

Either one of those would do what I would need in a revolver.

.357? What's not to love? I have an older model 60 snubbie that sleeps on my night stand when we are not traveling together. Of course, my 4" 686 whines a bit if I do not feed it on a regular basis. Seriously tho, choosing between a 686 and a Ruger GP 100 is a tough choice. But you can't go wrong with either one. Both are rock solid handguns and will last a lifetime. I have already planned to hand mine off to my grandsons when my time comes.

I have had both GP100 and 686 in 6 inch, I liked them both but the GP is just a little bit less comfortable in my hand. As I have aged I now have a 686 in 4 inch and a 60-10 which gets more time in the sun than any of my center fire revolvers. For fun guns I am all .22 revolvers now at 75 and a weak grip.
Either of the GP100 or a 686 will searve your purpose well, shoot them both then decide. Good luck the hunt is fun.

I have a number of .357s. If I could only have one, it would be my 3" barreled SP101. It's built solid enough to last forever, enough sight radius to be accurate at distance, and heavy enough to comfortably shoot all day even with hot magnum loads, yet short and light enough to easily carry and conceal.

    Sounds like the perfect combination

It's as perfect as I've found so far. A buddy has a 3" S&W model 60 that I kind of covet, but my SP101 cost a lot less and does the same thing. The 101 has accompanied me on numerous backpacking trips and I've never been bothered by the weight or felt undergunned (so long as we're not in Grizzly country). I just got back from a 4 day hike in WV and it was on my hip the whole time.

That 5 round business is a dealbreaker to me in a revolver that size.
