    So not the pilot's fault, they were where they were told to be and doing what the air boss directed them to do, which was cross over with no vertical separation. Seems to be a lack of recognition or attention given to airshow safety standards and why they've been established.

    Airboss briefing (or lack thereof) can certainly be a contributing factor...but PIC is ALWAYS "at fault".

    "See and avoid"

    Yep. Short of a mechanical failure, a mid-air collision will always be traced to one or both pilots of the aircraft involved. Regardless of what anyone else tells them to do, the PIC is always responsible to see and avoid.

    I think an important thing to remember here is that nobody was acting maliciously. Mistakes were made, but nobody involved was intentionally out to cause harm. That’s why it’s so tragic, it was merely an accident that cost several people everything. :(
