I bore sighted a rifle today; just a reminder...
If the bore is centered on a target and the cross hairs of the scope are below the target, that means the shot would have gone high if you had shot with the cross hairs centered on the target. So, you need to adjust the scope DOWN until the cross hairs are centered on the target.
It is easy to do it wrong if you don't think it through.

I just turn on the laser and adjust my scope to match before firing the first shot.

    Am I missing something?

... Fire one shot centered on target. Adjust scope to where the bullet hit, center on target. Fire again. Done.

This is what I do. Typically off of a bipod. I like to watch the crosshairs move from center to the bullet hole if possible.

Just did this yesterday on the Encore 209X50. Quickly found the issue...

    First shots at 50 yards...

Final two shots at 100 yards...

I don't use a Lazer bore sighter because I had issues with them. I prefer a bsa bore sighter. Ive had really good luck with them.

When bore-sighting an AR platform, how do you handle the fact that the sights are not even close to the bore axis?

I've never seen a good procedure for getting a good vertical adjustment when using a laser bore-sighter.

I remove the upper and bolt, put it in a gun cradle on a table. Look through the barrel while pointing it out the window at something about 100 - 150 yards away. It's always very close during the first shots on paper.
