44-40 is a great traditional cartridge and I shoot a lot of it in my vintage Winchesters and Colts. I've got higher powered lever guns that I use for hunting and some chambered for modern cartridges, but I probably shoot more 44-40 than anything else, that and the other two old Winchester cartridges, 38-40 and 32-20.
I have a few of the 82-83 parts single actions that I bought through Demilt when he was with Colt in his early years.
All BP frames in 44-40, ive never shot any of them.
As a Browning B82, 1885 guy it surprises me they did a 45 LC but never did a run in 44-40.

A non-traditional lever action with the Browning BLR being magazine fed Is a great purpose choice. More hunting specific, rather than fun gun.

So been wanting a lever gun for along time and finally ready to pull the trigger but not sure what caliber. This is a fun gun.

    .357
    .44mag
    30-30
    45-70

Which one if you had to choose one?

I do own a ruger in .357 so that’s slightly tempting to stay same caliber.
I recommend 44 mag or 357 because u can shoot 44 special and 38 special so two different ammo with one gun. I have a 44 mag revolver and lever action cowboy style and about to get my 357 in revolver and lever soon

I wonder if they can shoot the 38 S&W in them as well?

Generally not. Some won't even run .38 Special unless you load them long. And .38 S&W is slightly larger diameter.
Yeah you'd have to reload them with 357 358 bullets instead of 360.
I didn't know Henry's had trouble shooting 38 special in them. I wondered because the 22lr Henry's can shoot long and short 22 rimfire.
