Closest I have been, or ever hope to be, to a tornado. The people they talk to in this are less than 1/2 mile down the road from me...

Severe storms leave some in Michiana with major damages

We were close enough to hear it, but it was too windy and raining too hard to see it.

At our house, we lost a few leaves.

Power went out a few minutes before it hit. Still out this morning with no estimate of when it will be back on.

Glad nobody was hurt! Was it a tornado or just straight line winds? Not that it makes much difference with the damage. They were calling the storm a "derecho" on the weather here this morning.

A derecho (/dəˈreɪtʃoʊ/, from Spanish: derecho [deˈɾetʃo], "straight") is a widespread, long-lived, straight-line wind storm that is associated with a fast-moving group of severe thunderstorms known as a mesoscale convective system.[SUP][1]

Our phones went off for a tornado warning. I looked at the radar and there was a little red blip just south of us. I assume that was it.

NWS is coming out today to assess the damage and decide if it was tornado.:dunno:

I'm no expert, but the damage in this pic looks like a tornado that was lifting up. For a couple miles west of here there's a lot of damage. But east of this house, nothin...

We had power out a couple of times for a couple of hours or so each time. Sitting on the back porch with the better 2/3's and the cat, enjoying the rain, the cool air, the hummers, the yellow and red finches, the cardinals, the swallows, the thunder, the breeze. It was a nice evening.

Near side south west Fort Wayne lost power at 7:30pm from Lutheran to Jefferson Point. Estimated restore time midnight.

Well twelve plus hours without power in our Fort Wayne neighborhood. I&M is "Assessing Conditions" and has no idea of when power will be restored. Ran the generator before work this morning to keep the refrigerator/freezer cold. May have to run home at lunch for another top off of juice to the refrigerator.

A few pics of HoughMade Meadows.

Thankfully, we have no trees near the house. This tree is at the very end of my driveway which is 100 yards from the house.

When I got home last night, one neighbor was already out there with his chainsaw and the other was walking over with his. I changed, got mine and we cut and dragged until we lost the light. I have my driveway back. there are a few hangers and the trunk of the largest tree needs to be taken down (4 or 5, 6 to 8 inch trees were flattened by the big one), but almost everything is on the ground and less hazardous. Good neighbors (with chainsaws) are priceless.

Also, the tree came down right next to the power lines. There was a small branch with leaves attached (about a foot long), hanging on one of the power lines, meaning the tree brushed against them as it came down.

My 1920s vintage IH plow that was my Dad's may have survived well enough for yard art purposes. The 1910s vintage sickle bar mower is scrap, but that was just here when we moved in. I liked it, but there is no attachment to it.

I'm south of Burlington and we are working on 16 hours without electricity. No idea when it will be on. When we reported it Duke said it would be back on by 0100. I think they were a little off...

Nipsco says we'll be back on by 3pm. I'm not holding my breath.

I think "I can't breath" is covered in a different thread.

I&M just messaged me Thursday night at 11pm. Thank you for your patience.

edit: power came back on Tuesday night just as the sun was setting.

Nipsco has update our estimated restoration time, now 6:53.

    Not 6:52 or 6:54.

NIPSCO sent me an email at 9am this morning saying my power should be restored by 11am, except my power had come back on around 8:45, right before the email lol

They did send me another email at 11 to say my power was restored

Much like parcel/postage tracking when you actually receive the item 1 to 2 days earlier than projected, it's meant to instill the notion that you're a great customer and they've presented you xtra special service. Oops, I forgot to use purple.

Annnnnnnnnd it's back on. After almost 45 hours.

    The trusty generator performed admirably.
