    There are some real gems in here, like the claim these are not like “American style mass shootings” and the stunning admission South Africa’s strict gun laws don’t work, but more active policing does.

    Same ****, different place. And no lawful right for the victims to defend themselves by shooting back. What a hellhole.

    I'm not sure of the details of South African firearms law but I'm pretty sure semi auto rifles are prohibited. I know it is all but impossible to import them into the country. Lever actions are only slightly less difficult but at least possible. When I went over there to hunt in 2018, bolt action rifles were ubiquitous in rural areas. I'm not sure about handguns but both my outfitter and PH kept small semi autos close at hand and out of sight in the trucks while in cities and towns. My PH never carried his on him while we were hunting but some of the other PHs in camp carried theirs.
