He actually landed just south of the square and taxied into it. I was there 2 years later and surprisingly the tour guide mentioned the event and pointed out the spot where he landed.

Late 80's working on the A-10s at Grissom airpatch. Back then, Air Reserve Techs could wear civilian clothes during the week. Top picture is the TF34-100 Test Cell. Being a jet tech on the A-10 was a fun job. Was also qualified to work on the ACES-II ejection seat.
