Military trucks coming to haul away members of my family or my neighbors against their will is my Samuel Whittemore moment.

    IYKYK.
    Holy cow... Samuel Whittemore...

" was 78 years old when he became the oldest known colonial combatant in the American Revolutionary War"

"Whittemore was in his fields when he spotted an approaching British relief brigade under Earl Percy, sent to assist the retreat. Whittemore loaded his musket and ambushed the British grenadiers of the 47th Regiment of Foot from behind a nearby stone wall, killing one soldier. He then drew his dueling pistols, killed a second grenadier and mortally wounded a third. By the time Whittemore had fired his third shot, a British detachment had reached his position; Whittemore drew his sword and attacked. He was subsequently shot in the face, bayoneted numerous times, and left for dead in a pool of blood. He was found by colonial forces, trying to load his musket to resume the fight. He was taken to Dr. Cotton Tufts of Medford, who perceived no hope for his survival. However, Whittemore recovered and lived another 18 years until dying of natural causes at the age of 96."

I want a guy like that next to me in the fight!
78 years old, fights the enemy like a roided honey badger, shot in the face, bayoneted, beaten, left for dead, and still trying to fight.

The problem many people have is perspective. I honestly believe that the Australian government officials mean well. They believe what they are doing is necessary and important. The problem is perspective.

All they see from the media, as they are human too and watch MSM as much as anyone, are these huge numbers of dead and infected. Therefore, they believe they must do something extreme to bring these numbers down.

Here is where perspective matters. It is analogous to environmental extremists pushing electric cars. We must switch over immediately. People buy electric cars in great numbers, so they believe. In 2016 Chevy had their best sales of Volt cars. They sold 24,739 Volts. That is a LOT of cars, right? It sounds like a lot. What they fail to grasp is that in the same year Chevy sold 574,876 Silverados. The 24k Volts sounds like a lot except when you compare it to 574k Silverados, then it becomes a little less than 5% of the truck sales. Hmmm...

Now we come to the plague. According to the WHO, there have been 5,174,646 deaths from the plague. That's a lot, right. The total world population in 2020 was 7,794,798,739, or about 7.8 BILLION people. In 2019 (pre-pandemic numbers) 58,394,378 people died world wide. So out of the world population less than 1 tenth of 1% of the population died from the plague. The plague did increase the death rate, worldwide, by about 10%. So, instead of having 10 people who were going to die no matter what, you had 11.

But there's more. As I understand it about 40% of those who died, at least in the USA, were in nursing homes. So of those extra people it really isn't that bad, as many in nursing homes would already be in that 58,394,378 that would die anyway.

In simple terms, while bad, the plague isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

However, looking at over 5 million extra deaths does look massive. It's no ones fault.

It is also very similar to very well meaning people who talk about saving our budget by cutting $400 million from some welfare program, or some aid program. That will really help. That will save our economy. That will save taxpayers money. $400 million is a lot of money. That'll add up - right? Wrong. Our expenditures in 2020 were $6.6 TRILLION! So unless you say you want to cut a program of $66,000,000,000, or $66 billion, you haven't even saved 1%. It would take 165 programs cut of $400 million to reduce our spending by 1%.

I don't bring the budget numbers up because I'm against cutting. I DO support cutting our spending, a lot. I just understand that a few hundred million dollars here or there won't do squat. A few billion dollars here or there won't do squat.

So, a generally socialist, nanny state government that is already predisposed to do everything possible to take care of it's citizens is going to go to extreme measures for the greater good.

By the way, every government SHOULD do this, if the situation warranted it! OUR government should do this and much more, if necessary. If this were MERS with a 30% mortality rate, or an airborne Ebola mutation with a 90% mortality rate it would be unconscionable to NOT lock people down. COVID? Nope. Way over reaction. Keeping perspective in mind the death rate doesn't support these actions.

    Regards,

    Doug

Australia sending troops, police to Solomons amid unrest

    Wed, November 24, 2021, 11:33 PM

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia says it is sending police, troops and diplomats to the Solomon Islands to help after anti-government demonstrators defied lockdown orders and took to the streets for a second day in violent protests.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Thursday the deployment would include a detachment of 23 federal police officers and up to 50 more to provide security at critical infrastructure sites, as well as 43 defense force personnel, a patrol boat and at least five diplomats.

He says the aid comes at the request of his Solomon Islands’ counterpart, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.

Sogavare declared a lockdown Wednesday after about 1,000 people gathered in protest in the capital Honiara demanding his resignation over a host of domestic issues. The protesters breached the National Parliament building and burned the thatched roof of a nearby building, the government said.

This protest isn't 'COVID' related, it's about 'government support' of China.

The violence reportedly involved a group of protesters who travelled to Honiara this week from the neighbouring island of Malaita.
Their grievances are believed to involve perceived neglect by the central government and lingering dissatisfaction at the Solomons’ decision to switch diplomatic allegiances from Taiwan to China in 2019.
Many communities in Malaita had forged deep ties with Taipei and the island’s local government has repeatedly complained about embracing China.

What that article shows is the writer/editors/etc bias. They call them violent protests rather than mostly peaceful.
