First post! New owner (Legion XFive) and now I’m looking at an AR. So many questions? While the idea of a sub 300 BLK seems dope AF, the potential of a double stamp and lack of ammo makes it look less than ideal.

So I’m looking at your standard 556/223. Ideally, I’d like to make this happen before 46 and I don’t know if I can get more than $8-900 before inauguration. My local shop has a PSA. My thought is to get into the platform and then go through and upgrade. (B5 grip/stock, Radian ch/switch, trigger, etc).

Question... is there a better option out there for the sub $1K market.

Finally, with an AR pistol vs rifle, anything short of 16” is an SBR. Unless you got a combined length at 16” (pin & welded). Any gunsmith y’all recommend out there?

    thanks!!!!

For a grand, you'll have many options for an AR. The reality is, you're gonna need to spend about half of that grand on ammo and mags.
My advise is to buy a quality used rifle in a packaged deal that includes some ammo and a few mags.
    Good luck.
My man... thanks for the reply. Any recommendations on where to look for good used stuff?

Your first MSR? Have you fired one before?

If you intend on buying a lesser brand and "going through and upgrading", why not just build from the start and avoid higher costs? If not, I would recommend training with the rifle in its stock configuration for awhile until you are certain what you want to improve on. No sense in dropping in the latest and greatest just because.

Most importantly, what is the purpose of the buy/build? What will you use it for? This will help guide your decisions.

^ I'll agree. I enjoyed my PSA rifles, but having stepped into the higher end realm of rifles and firearms It's hard to look back. I learned a lot about the platform from "building" a PSA rifle, but when it comes down to it I'll rely on a more battle proven rifle than a PSA when I'm looking for my end all, be all rifle.

Also, keep an eye on the BST pages. Lot's of good people in here selling quality rifles for decent prices. Even after 2020, you can still find some deals if you're patient.

My FIL has a Sig M400. Took the AR class at SPB. Loved how much fun that was to shoot. Ideally, yes, I’d love to just wait and save up for high end AR, however I’m tryin to get it before 46 gets sworn in.

As for building... I’m starting to come around on doing that. Find out that I want a B5 grip and stock. Radian charging handle and safety switch. My issue is finding lowers. I see that Sig has complete uppers available. Plus, I can get my hands on some stuff with BDU, but again my issue is getting it before Sniffin Joe.

    Thoughts?

CM said it right. Get your QUALITY posts or buy your way into the classifieds.

I don't have any complete PSA guns, but plenty of their parts mixed in. An upper or two also. No problems with them for me.

I think the OP is on the right mindset. Time to get busy and get it done, before who knows what?

Lotta 300BLK parts and ammo listed in the classies.

Lowers are out there for sale. Buy online and have it shipped to your local FFL. Or go talk to your local FFL and see if they can order one for you, if they don't have one in stock. Get them to do that and you shouldn't have to pay a transfer fee.

Have had emails today alone for Aero stripped lower for under $100. Complete PSA for $200. I know there was a few others as well. Kentucy Gun Co. I believe had lowers on sale. Look at Slickguns.com. You'll see lowers in stock everday

Are pistols in 556/223 in my opinion are silly.

I like my s&w m&p 556. Pretty sweet gun and you can find them for around 800 at a few shops. Carmel and avon psb have them. But good luck feeding any in 556.

I have an ar with an Anderson lower (I know I know) with a PSA upper that once the charging handle was replaced it's rock solid. Lots of rounds have been burned through It.

So find yourself a solid base and start upgrading.

Special interests for me. A legal deer cartridge. Plus one I can cast my own boolits and make cases for, out of readily available .223.

It's just a barrel change and everything else interchanges. I only got a 300BLK after the popularity showed it would last and there was a variety of commercial ammo at all the counters.
