Armadillos in Terre Haute?

They like them in South and Central America. Never had any though.

It's true they are carriers for it. There are a few cases of leprosy annually traced back to the consumption/handling of armadillos.

At my brothers farm in south Tenn. they were very distructive. He predicted they would make it to Indiana.

Fifteen years ago I read an article saying they were in Illinois and heading our way. The quote from the article that sticks with me, is saying that some people in South America keep them as “edible pets.”

Possum on a half shell’s what I’ve heard.

Yep. Of course, leprosy is treatable now so you rarely hear about it as it is no big deal anymore.

Never saw one alive in nature. I always thought their natural habitat was laying by the side of the road.

They certainly can be destructive to say the least, have come across them many times while hunting in Texas and florida!
Odd little fellas for sure! We use to call them uparmored possums!

I could see 1. Ive seen them singularly in southern IN as roadkill.

But 4 at once seems really odd.

Let me help ya out with a picture of four at once...took this in Arkansas nearly two months ago...odd lookin' critters. Feet like pigs, ears like a bunny, nose like a rat, and better body armor that most tactical units.

I've got one in my garage at the moment. Well part of it anyway, it's a basket made out of the shell. Its tail is wrapped around and connected to the head for the handle.

I've seen them dead on the side of the road in southern Indiana before, but everyone I've mentioned it too thinks I'm nuts.
