Thanks I'll have to give it a try, I haven't taken it off the gun it's on yet but just looking at it I thought "that's gonna get in the way."
As the other guy said, you don't need a carry handle to clear the front sight. Just a regular mount. If the front sight still bothers you, just get an upper without it. I got my fixed carry handle for the retro look. It's not a scope. It's a red dot

Work in progress retro midlength build. Got the reciever set from E2 Armory, the barrel kit from Del-Ton, and the rest from various retailers. The flashlight mount is a chinesium special that had to be drastically attacked with a dremel to make it fit under the FSB. The moderator is a slip-on fake moderator from Tony's customs, the threads are right behind the flash hider slots and the rest of the body is hollow. The barrel is a lightweight profile 16" 1-9.

The goal for this is to do a midlength Blood Diamond rifle. I didn't want to go short barrel, and I don't like the proportions of 16" barrels with carbine gas. So, I gave up the skinny CAR handguards and went midlength. The front end of the rifle with that fake moderator is very close to the proportions I was looking for. I have a 30mm PA dot as the stand-in for an old Aimpoint and I'm waiting on a carry handle mount. The Streamlight HLX is standing in for a Surefire and it'll get a remote switch soon. The last step will be a rattle can job.

The upper came stripped and installing an A2 rear sight was an interesting chore.

PA is close enough for a cheapie build. Honestly my eyes kinda hate dots, cheap dot or expensive dot they're all aiming with a 4 MOA red starburst to my eye. But I couldn't find any prisms that fit the budget, played well with a carry handle, and looked close.
