I’ll be turkey hunting Owen Co for the first time this year.
I`ve got a buddy who lives and hunts Putnam County. He lost some ground he had access to for turkey hunting, which he used to let me hunt, so since he`s lost that, I won`t be able to go hunting with him until the second week of season. There are a lot of turkeys in his area, we always see and hear many birds before the spring season is over. Putnam County is loaded with birds in the right areas, and Owen is too.
I`ve hunted Owen-Putnam State Forest when I was a little better able to navigate that terrain. I called in what must have been a 2-year old, in for a different buddy several years ago. The thing gobbled it`s head off from before it flew down till it was out of hearing, after it came through in cover too thick for him to shoot. That`s the closest I`ve come to calling in a bird to be killed on public land, but I`ve called in and killed several birds either on my own, or I was the shooter with my buddy calling. Can`t wait to get after them in a few weeks.
