Is it illegal? You'll pardon me if I don't take what the media and alt-media sells as gospel. But ok, say it's illegal. What are you and those complaining about it going to do about it? Who's marching down to the courthouse with Kirk to file that lawsuit? Or whatever plan you have other that you think will matter?
I was just going to make a YouTube video. I hear you can make good money on rage porn.

Without a mechanism for enforcement and accountability, any statute is just ink on a page. Even more so for people who intend to enslave the populace.

Pretty much the status quo for anything the left authors.

    Dear Dad Smith,

Thank you for contacting my office about the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). I appreciate hearing from you on this important topic.

Let me begin by saying that I am an avid hunter, a National Rifle Association of America member, and stand in support of the Second Amendment. In the Senate, I will oppose any efforts to restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners and will protect their ability to defend themselves and their families in life-threatening situations.

Under current law, Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) are required to keep records for gun transactions. These transaction records are called Form 4473s, and they contain information on both the firearm and the purchaser. These forms are kept by FFLs at the FFL premises in physical form, and may later be reviewed by law enforcement to trace guns that have been used in crimes. Federal law also requires FFLs to retain these forms for 20 years, after which they may be destroyed. However, when an FFL closes or goes out of business, it is required to transfer its Form 4473s to the ATF, which in turn retains them indefinitely for tracing purposes. The ATF receives millions of records every year through this process. On May 7, 2021, the ATF proposed a new rule that would, among other things, require FFLs to hold onto records such as Form 4473s indefinitely, which would ultimately result in all Form 4473s ending up in the possession of the ATF.

On November 22, 2021, Representative Michael Cloud of Texas sent a letter to the ATF inquiring about the proposed rule and ATF's record keeping practices. Responding to this letter, ATF revealed that it possess nearly one billion gun records and has digitized almost all of them. Federal statute, particularly the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986, expressly prohibits the creation of a registry or centralized database. I am gravely concerned that ATF's record keeping practices, in combination with its new proposed rule, constitute a de facto gun registry. Let me be clear: I oppose any and all efforts to centrally track or record Americans' gun ownership, and am actively working to prevent the creation of such a system.

You may be interested to know that, on May 27, 2021, I introduced S. 1920, the ATF Accountability Act, to make the ATF more responsible to the American public. This bill would establish a process for licensed gun dealers, importers, or manufacturers to appeal rulings and determinations made by the ATF. Thank you for bringing the issue of an ATF gun registry to my attention, and rest assured that I will continue to fight for your Second Amendment rights in the United States Senate.

Thank you for contacting me. It is an honor to serve as your U.S. Senator from Indiana. Please keep in touch with me on issues of concern to you. You can also follow me on Twitter or Facebook for real-time updates on my activities in the U.S. Senate. If I ever may be of service, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Sincerely,

    Mike Braun
    U.S. Senator

I'm still awaiting Senator Todd Young's response. As usual I doubt I get one from the Rino.

    Dear Dad Smith,

Thank you for contacting my office regarding the Second Amendment and your constitutional right to bear arms. I appreciate you taking the time to share your views on this very important matter, and I welcome the opportunity to respond.

I am 100 percent committed to protecting your right to bear arms. Our Founding Fathers could not have been clearer – the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. As a firearm owner and lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, I am passionate about safeguarding the fundamental right of all Hoosiers to protect themselves and the people they love. The United States Constitution sets forth that gun ownership is not a special privilege reserved for a select few but is a protected freedom for all law-abiding citizens.

As your Representative in Congress, I will continue to support measures that protect Hoosiers’ Second Amendment rights and fight back against radical legislation that infringes on those rights the Founders deemed essential to our freedom. It is an honor to serve Hoosiers of Indiana's Sixth Congressional District. You can visit my website at pence.house.gov to learn more about how I am representing you in Congress.

    Sincerely,

    Greg Pence
    Member of Congress

Thought the estimates are that there’re about 400 million privately owned guns in the US. Where do you get a list 2.5X that number? Couldn’t have been that many “boating accidents!”
If I sell one or more of my firearms to an FFL dealer or pawnbroker, it becomes a used firearm in their inventory. If and when they sell it, the buyer must complete a 4473. Thus, a firearm may have more than one 4473 tied to its serial number.
