Hey all, my third cousin once removed has a friend whose cousin in law may have an AK pistol that he is wondering if it could be altered into a rifle. Are there any gunsmiths who could do this? He lives up in NWI but does get down to Indy from time to time. He has very little mechanical aptitude himself….

I am not a gunsmith, nor a member of the AFT, but this question seems… questionable.

Not sure if you forgot the purple text or not, but @AllenM does great work in the Indy area. Though if your message is accurate he may not want to touch this job with a 10-foot barrel...

Legally speaking a pistol is always a pistol, unless you SBR it.
I was mistaken. Barrel swap, headspacing, finding and putting on new barrel components, and adding a rear trunnion is probably not a cost-effective adventure. Leave that poor draco alone

    16"+ barrel.... LBR
I had it backwards, a Title 1 Pistol can be configured as a Title 1 Rifle and then returned to it's original configuration. A Title 1 Rifle can not be made into a Pistol, but can be made a Title 2 SBR with a Form 1. The rules are murky on Pistol>SBR>Pistol. ATF ruling 2011-4.

Allegedly there is to be an amnesty for the braced pistols so there many very well be a bunch more SBRs added the the NFRTR.
