My understanding is if you call Lee and send them 25 bucks and a few pieces of trimmed brass they will make you a factory crimp die.

Djones, glad you showed up on this thread, it was your thread awhile back that got me going down this road. One bit of info that I lost perhaps you could supply. Just how much was it that we had to machine off the factory crimp die on the 45-70? I recorded it on my 35 Rem project but after I had the machinist do my 45-70 die I forgot what it was.
I took 0.305" off of my factory crimp die. Haven't had shorten anything else for the 45-70.

Here is a link to the original thread by Djones that I found so helpful in the past.

I did what Djones recommended and shortened my factory crimp die .305 as well. Good thing was I am still able to use it for length loads as well. I also updated my original data on the beginning of this thread to include that dimension. I had forgotten what that dimension was, thank you Mr Jones!

Also while I'm linking these together perhaps someone would find the same information as pertaining to the 35 Remington 1.8 Indiana compliant loads helpful as well:

I thought I would try this, here is a short video showing my tricked out Guide Gun that I used for my 45-70 1.8 loads.

Any recommendations on a 1.8 load using my 1873 Springfield Trapdoor? I reloaded both BP and smokeless rounds and would love the cool factor of hunting with it. Any advice??

Take Aim at Rifle Reloading Data | Hodgdon Reloading

^^^Again, here is some Trap Door data. For me, since you need to take about 10% off of your case length, I would start @ 10% UNDER the starting load listed...H4198, on the Hodgdon data list, looks like a good, low pressure start load.
For a 405gr. cast lead load, it list 27.0gr. of this powder as a start....For me, I would load a few with 24.0gr. and see how they do...Bill.
