If you reload the 30-06 and have a modern rifle you can get some powerful loads with it where the 308 is limited in that respect. I'm set up for 308 so that is what I go with. The 06 is an amazing cartridge and has a lot of potential if using hand loads and a modern rifle that can handle the pressure.

6.5 Creedmore....plenty of get up and go, BUT a sweetie to your shoulder. Before the China flue, Wal-Mart was stocking 4 varieties and all were pretty reasonable. A few years ago, I said I didn't need another caliber. I had both 30-06 and 308. Then Buck (God rest his soul) the "wild cat" reloader of Tippy Lake, said try this and it wasn't some exotic "skunk works" caliber I had never heard of.
    I fired 5 shots out of a Begara 6.5 Creedmore......I was hooked!!!!

I actually take both. I have a 740 in 30.06 that I use in the woods or tighter areas. I also have a RRA LAR-8 I use in the open fields for long range.

I've shot deer with both. Anymore I usually grab the 308 but that's more about the features of the gun than the caliber.
