I just found one of these a couple days ago on a garden plant...

Yep, they're here. Castile soap seemed to work on it, but took a while.

Destroyed a row of beans last night, and I only found 3 worms. Had to be more I would imagine.

Went ahead and picked the rest just to be safe.

The last crop of this season's green peppers got harvested from my patio plants this past weekend. They were kind of small so I decided to turn them into stuffed peppers. I found that this worked out better than using larger peppers as the small ones fit better in the crock pot.

The pics don't show it but they were slow cooked in V-8 juice.

    For cooking the yard longs...
Been treating them just like green beans. Side by side with mashed taters and meat, stir fry, whatever.
They're still coming on like gang busters every time they get water, the most productive beans I've ever seen.
Tomorrow I'm gonna throw some in a pickle with carrots, peepers and Armenian cucumbers.

Trying to keep up with eating them myself.

I have read that they do better stir fried than cooked or boiled in liquid? Supposedly, they absorb the liquid and it takes away from their taste?

I did cook some in bone broth, but they were fairly heavily seasoned. They seemed fine, but not necessarily like green beans.

Lately been stir frying with peppers, onions, garlic and pulled pork, with a couple oriental seasonings.

If I read correctly, long beans are in the black-eyed family? They also have more carbs than green beans.

I'm gonna have to figure how I want to freeze them. Some of the lower ones that made it to the ground have gone too far and will be saved for seed.

Hi Jaybird1980, Newbie, learning rules. Ok if I reply here? Don't see start convo tab & am wee bit confused. Don't want a hand slap. Among other things I'm a master gardener/landscaper & wanted to share info w/U. Lovely beans: naughty worms.

By all means share away if you've got helpful info, just don't try to buy something or sell something and you'll be fine. Also just use family friendly language.

If you want to do it in private for some reason, just do as Kaufman said and click my username and click start convo. , Just don't feel required to keep it private, everyone on here likes to share info.

    And welcome to :ingo:

Today I need to make a mirror frame for someone but when that project comes to a stopping place it's yard longs and Armenian cucumbers into brine for pickling.

    I'm rolling the dice;

Had almost two full bulk packs of Giant Noble spinach that I wanted to start filling garden gaps with Oct 1. A lot of this variety overwintered last year and gave me a solid spring harvest.

I realized I was behind, so I quickly tossed a couple of four packs full of seeds to transfer. I still had a lot of seeds, so I topped off the porch tomato containers wherever there was not already green growing. Still had seeds, so I scratched up the surface ground in a few spots around the deck, re-scratching after fairly heavily seeding. Watered it all in.

    We will see...
